Who We Are
Las Marías: History of a Place and Its People
The history of Las Marías begins at the outset of the twentieth century, when Víctor Navajas Centeno inherited a ranch located in the northeast of the Argentine province of Corrientes. Besides a ranch, Navajas Centeno inherited from his family a bold spirit and a great love of plants. Taking after his mother, who had delved into experiments in cultivating yerba mate, Don Víctor, along with his wife María Silvia, dramatically changed the cattle-ranching nature of his inheritance when they created the first successful yerba mate plantation at Las Marías. It was 1924. The couple was young, and they dreamed about the future.
Years later, ventures into tea growing would change the landscape of the region forever. Since then, three generations driven by this same intrepid spirit have been able to carry forward a family project that has transformed Las Marías into a leading center that specializes in infusions.
Today, Las Marías is a prestigious source of tea for the entire world and the greatest producer of yerba mate on the planet. Taraguí, Unión, La Merced and Mañanita, all are the results of a company in constant development.
